The state of the roads 2015: An urgent situation
The French road network, one of the largest in the world, is gradually deteriorating. Since 2008, we have observed falls of over 30% in investment in maintaining our road assets.
As a direct consequence, potholes and cracks are appearing.
As a result of traffic and weather conditions, roads deteriorate over the years. Only appropriate and regular maintenance can extend the network’s life, thus optimising expenditure while keeping road users safe.

It is crucial that a policy to manage and maintain road assets is put in place in order to avoid emergency repairs, which are often costly.
“Every €1 less invested in maintenance can result in over €10 of additional costs in years to come!”
As such, the priority is to adopt a preventative strategy to ensure that damage does not reach a critical threshold, compromising the preservation of the road surface, safety conditions, and the integrity of the surface layer.
